REVIEW: Pyunkang Yul Essence Toner - it's simple & it works
This is my 2nd bottle of this toner. Starting off with this sentence probably is a spoiler already :P. But yeah, it works.
The concept is simply yet pretty special. Pyunkang Yul is a famous brand in herbal medicine in Korea before skincare. This toner is created with/from that concept and somehow it makes me feel so…safe using this, knowing it was created from the minds that take care of people's health. It's supposed to be simple, light, nothing fancy but rather cutting down to the chase of hydration and nutrition filling.
This essence toner has less than 10 ingredients so we can be sure there are only essentials that are formulated into this blue bottle:
Astragalus Membranaceus Root Extract, 1,2-Hexanediol, Butylene Glycol, Bis-PEG-18 Methyl Ether Dimethyl Silane, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Carbomer, Arginine
The main ingredient, which is Milk Vetch (Astragalus Membranaceus) Root Extract, is used in traditional Chinese medicine and is known for its anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant benefits. Well, there is silicone in here but don't get freaked out yet because it's not as bad as people make it seem like (talk about 1 of the things that Youtube totally hyped up, heh?). It, indeed, is well-tolerated by most skin types and this toner doesn't even have a big proportion of silicone in it. In fact, I don't even feel it.
People also rave about the Klairs Supple Preparation Facial Toner. However, I find that one kind of irritating on my skin because of the fragrance in it. So this Pyunkang Yul one is already the winner for being completely mild and sensitive-skin friendly. It has no artificial fragrance in it, completely scent-less when apply.
The consistency is a bit thicker than water when you pour it out of the bottle, but once applied on the skin, it turns super light and almost water consistency. That helps this essence toner extremely well-absorbing to the point that you can do 3 layers of it and it still doesn't make your skin icky. It feels so hydrating, yet light and gentle, almost like water. As I said earlier, it doesn't leave any sticky film after sinking in. And though being so simple as it is, because it's filled with nutritions as well, it can even replace hyaluronic acid serum if you're allergic to HA. It's a bold statement but…yeah, I believe in it.
When it comes to products like toner, essence,…I like it simple and gentle. Other values can be found in treatments or serums that I apply afterwards. This toner calms, balances, hydrates, caring without irritation. I love it for being the 1st or 2nd step in my routine, both day and night.
The price is also good: €15 for 200ml bottle. And you wouldn't go through it too fast, don't you worry. The bottle usually lasts me 3 months. This price range is at the friendly mark that anyone can give it a try. I highly recommend it!
