Review: DRUNK ELEPHANT Slaai Makeup-Melting Butter Cleanser
Price: €32 ($34) for 100ml
How to use: Apply to dry skin, massage, then rinse with water or wipe away.
I’m a hard-core follower of double cleasing. I loveeeee my Tatcha cleansing oil. You know I do. She’s my bae. As I was running out of the bottle recently, I figured why not try out a new product. And Drunk Elephant came in as they just released their new Slaai Makeup-Melting Butter Cleanser. Now, Drunk Elephant is one of my favorite brands so I didn’t really have any doubt buying it. I was just never into cleansing balm because this type of product is rather irritating for me. “But hey it’s Drunk Elephant so whatever I’m just gonna give it a try.”. You know what? I love it. Here are why:
Let’s bring out the most special thing about it that I love: NO PEGs. In case you missed it, this cleansing balm has NO PEGs, which is super irritating for the skin, but somehow plays a major part in creating a cleansing balm supposedly because they all have it but NOT Drunk Elephant. Tiffany Masterson (Founder of DE) is a total boss to achieve this. Thank you, Tiffany!
It cleanses so well. I melt it in between my hand palms, then massage it onto my face. Instantly gets everything off. Bye makeup bye (sunscreen too)! And it cleanses everything off in the most delicate way ever.
It leaves my skin super smooth after double-cleanse and not sticky at all. Now, since the Tatcha cleansing oil already set the bar very high, I’d always found myself not impressed by other oil-based cleansing products anymore. Until I tried this one. Now it’s a tie between Tatcha & Drunk Elephant. This product does not irritate my face whatsoever.
The magnetic spatula that you can keep on the magnetic cap of the jar is g.e.n.i.u.s. Genius! Why? Because I lose things like that all the freakin’ time. Small spoons, spatulas, whatever. And I hate to have to try to look for them or even just getting them out of the box,…This DE packaging design solves all of it. It’s neat, it’s compact, it’s clean, it’s awesome! Why do I feel like this Slaai Makeup-Melting Butter Cleanser is tailor-made for me?
They also include a small size of Bamboo Booster that you can combine with the cleanser as a physical exfoliant, which I still haven’t touched yet because I’m hooked with Biologique Recherche P50W. But well, that’s a nice touch.
It feels luxurious. It does feel like the amount of money you’re paying for it. Many times, this ‘philosophy’ doesn’t always apply on cleansing products but for this one it does.
This product is organic, vegan, cruelty-free, and suitable for pregnancy. It should be for all skin types, and used for whenever you want to remove makeup or sunscreen. I’ve been thinking a lot on what cons there could be but so far I only found two:
If you like an essential spa-ish scent during your cleansing routine, this product won’t deliver that. It is fragrance free (which I am thankful for tbh). People may complain that it smells bad but honestly it smells like nothing.
Since it leaves your skin soft, and moisturized after cleanse, people who dig the squeaky clean feeling wouldn’t like this. Which is weird, if you ask for my opinion.
That’s it. That’s all I could ever think of to make you not like this product tbh. I love this one, you should try it out. And yes, I’ll def repurchase. Drunk Elephant has done it again. Well done!
